It shows the features and functions of a product in order to make clear the value or benefits that the customer will get when they purchase or use the product.  But, the product demonstration video has many other applications. They are effective tools for:<\/p>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #800000\"><\/p>\n<li>Quickly educating or reminding the sales team on how to present the product to potential customers.<\/li>\n<li>Potential investors to understand the capabilities of a company\u2019s products.<\/li>\n<li>Keeping team members across the organization informed and aware of their products.<\/li>\n<li>Keeping suppliers or potential suppliers informed and aware of the company\u2019s products.<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring that everyone gets a consistent product message.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<font size=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>The key to a successful product demonstration is structuring the demo to address the specific areas of interest of your target customers.  Our observations suggest that effective product demonstration videos include the following:<br \/>\n<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-color:#FFCC00;\"><span style=\"color: #FFCC00;\">TeamReadiness<\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><BR><strong><br \/>\n<a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">1. Identify the Market Segment.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">What market segment(s) is your product targeting?\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Who is the typical buyer or user of this product?<\/li>\n<li>What demographic, industry group, location, income bracket, lifestyle, etc.?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">2. Explain the Market Need or Problem.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">What customer issue(s) is this product designed to satisfy? <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Are there specific problems that it addresses?<\/li>\n<li>Is there a desire or need that the customer has that the product satisfies?<\/li>\n<li>Does it appeal to a higher purpose or calling that a customer may aspire to achieve?<\/li>\n<li>Does it provide improved performance measures (e.g., lower cost, easier maintenance, etc.)<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">3. Tell the Value Proposition or Unique Selling Proposition.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">What does the customer get that is valuable to him or her?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>In one or two sentences, use your Value Proposition and\/or your Unique Selling Proposition to help articulate the value that the customer is getting when they buy your product.  <\/li>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Value Proposition<\/em> &#8211; concise statement that tells a customer that if they buy a particular product, they will get specific benefits.<\/li>\n<li><em>Unique Selling Proposition<\/em> &#8211; concise statement explaining why a particular product is better than others at addressing the needs of the customer and therefore, making a compelling reason to purchase the product. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">4. Focus on Customer Purchase Criteria.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">What specific needs and wants will the target customer seek as they evaluate your product and your competitors&#8217; products, in order to decide which one to buy?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Show the benefits of the features and functions that speak directly to your target customer\u2019s purchase criteria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">5. Show the Product in Action. \u000b<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Show the product working &#8212; let the target customers see it in action.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Don&#8217;t waste a lot of time teasing the audience or talking incessantly, but quickly get into showing the product and demonstrating its benefits.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/span><\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">6. Inspire People to Try It, to Buy It.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Appeal to the senses and emotions to make the product look fun, pleasurable, tasty, beautiful, exciting, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Juicy hamburgers that make you really hungry.<\/li>\n<li>Exercise equipment that \u201clooks easy &#038; fun.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Beautiful styling lines and colors on a car or printer.<\/li>\n<li>Upbeat music that stimulates and excites.<\/li>\n<li>Lighting and decor that create an appealing ambiance.<\/li>\n<li>An attractive model that captures one\u2019s attention.<\/li>\n<li>A remote control toy helicopter that looks a little challenging but a lot fun.<\/li>\n<li>Visuals that inspire the audience to think, \u201cWow&#8230;I&#8217;d really like to try that!\u201d<\/li>\n<p>   <\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">7. Alleviate Fears.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Customers have the same fears we all do about a product, such as:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Will it perform to my expectations?<\/li>\n<li>Will it work reliably for a long period of time?<\/li>\n<li>How much will it really cost me to operate and maintain?<\/li>\n<li>How easy is it to use?<\/li>\n<li>What will I do if I have a question or a problem?<\/li>\n<li>Is it safe?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Identify your customers&#8217; biggest fears and take steps to mitigate them in the demonstration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">8. Consider the Competition.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">It can be helpful to compare the performance of your product to competitors (directly by name or by inference), or to state how your product is different compared to alternatives solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">There can be legal issues associated with making claims about competitors so be careful.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">There are also different marketing theories that should be considered (pros &#038; cons) on when to make comparisons to competitors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">9. Make it Credible and Believable.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Typically, it takes an outside, 3rd party, unbiased, objective source to validate the credibility and believability of your product.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Consider the following: <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Use performance test results done by an independent testing authority (metrics can show how your product compared to competitors or how it compared to a benchmark or standard).<\/li>\n<li>The testimony of current customers who use the product, who will vouch for its performance.<\/li>\n<li>The testimony of experts, celebrities, or people who have integrity with your target customers.<\/li>\n<li>Media attention in trade journals, online placements, newspapers, TV news, etc.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSeal of Approval\u201d from rating agencies, professional societies, or industry associations.\n<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a style=\"border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 3px; color:#FFCC00\"><span style=\"font:bold 21px Times New Roman;color:#000066\">10. Move Along Quickly, Clearly, Effectively.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">The video &#8220;story&#8221; should flow and move along quickly.  It should not be boring, drag, or waste the time of the target audience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Speech and images must be clear and easy to understand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">People want to see the product as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">All spoken words and text should be succinct \u201csound bites\u201d that explain things with razor sharp clarity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Test the video and its \u201cmessage\u201d before release &#8212; let others see it and get their feedback.\n <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Too Much Information &#8212; People have little patience and short memories &#8212; they want to know those one or two compelling reasons why they must have your product\u2026!\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Target one to three minutes duration for a product demonstration video.
