Often they require that immediate action be taken, where time is of the essence and there is little room for mistakes (e.g., fires, medical emergencies, etc.).\u00a0 Perhaps most important, when a trigger point occurs, team members <em>MUST BE READY<\/em> to respond &#8212; the time for mitigation and preparation has passed!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\">We&#8217;ve prioritized a list of trigger points that we believe most require team members to be ready to address when they occur.  Our prioritization ranking is based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<table >\n<tr>\n<td>\u000b<font size=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;1. Time to Action &#8211; <em>How long can the team or team member wait before they take action? \u000b<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u000b<font size=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;2. Probability of Occurrence &#8211; <em>How likely is it that this incident will occur? \u000b<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u000b<font size=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;3. Severity of Consequences &#8211; <em>How much damage could this incident cause?\u000b<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>With the trigger points we&#8217;ve listed, preparation is the key to success.  Team members must be ready to deal with them.  They come without warning.  They make no provision for &#8220;do overs.&#8221;  They are consequential and unforgiving.  Perhaps the best way to achieve trigger point readiness is to anticipate them in advance; Formulate and implement plans and procedures to address them; and have team members train on them regularly.  Because ready or not, here they come&#8230;<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-color:#FFCC00;\"><span style=\"color: #FFCC00;\">TeamReadiness<\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><BR><br \/>\n<font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>1. Serious medical incidents.<\/u><\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Choking or obstruction that prevents breathing.<\/li>\n<li>Heart Attack.<\/li>\n<li>Seizures.<\/li>\n<li>Fainting and the resulting fall.<\/li>\n<li>Stroke.<\/li>\n<li>Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>2. Man-made hazards that destroy life and property. <\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Fire.<\/li>\n<li>Trips\/slips or falls.<\/li>\n<li>Electrical incidents.<\/li>\n<li>Manual handling\/lifting. <\/li>\n<li>Handling harmful substances<\/li>\n<li>Struck or trapped by moving or falling objects.<\/li>\n<li>Fork-lift truck accidents.<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>3. Natural hazards that destroy life and property.<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Tornadoes and high winds.<\/li>\n<li>Floods.<\/li>\n<li>Ice Storms and hail.<\/li>\n<li>Thunderstorms and lightning.<\/li>\n<li>Hurricanes.<\/li>\n<li>Heat waves.<\/li>\n<li>Earthquakes.<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>4. Customer emergencies.<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Last minute changes that jeopardize other business activity and orders.<\/li>\n<li>Mistakes that require immediate correction.<\/li>\n<li>Mistakes that result in penalties, fines or loss customers.<\/li>\n<li>Deadlines at risk of not being met.<\/li>\n<li>Angry customers where what you say or do in that moment will affect future business.<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>5. Liabilities, violence, and opportunities for trouble. \u000b<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>\u201cJokes\u201d, emails, or comments could contain racist, sexist, incriminating or hostile language.<\/li>\n<li>Reprimands or disciplinary action that could contain racist, sexist, or hostile language.<\/li>\n<li>Malplacement Liability.<\/li>\n<li>Good Samaritan Liability. <\/li>\n<li>Physical threats, assault, or attack with a deadly weapon.<\/li>\n<li>Sexual harassment, inappropriate touching.<\/li>\n<li>Negligence.<\/li>\n<li>Shoplifters.<\/li>\n<li>Customer makes false claims to get compensation (e.g., Restaurant food was bad; trip &#038; fall in your parking lot, etc.) <\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>6. Surprise audits or inspections.<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Health Department inspectors show up at your restaurant.<\/li>\n<li>OSHA inspectors arrive at your facility.<\/li>\n<li>BOEMRE inspectors land on your drilling rig.<\/li>\n<li>JCAHO inspector shows up at your hospital for an unannounced full survey.<\/li>\n<p>   <\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>7. Timely problem resolution and task completion.<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Problems that shut down the manufacturing plant.<\/li>\n<li>Irate customers that repeatedly bring their product in for service on the same problem.<\/li>\n<li>Facility problems that inhibit or prevent tenant operations.<\/li>\n<li>Routine tasks are not getting done fast enough causing customer complaints.<\/li>\n<li>New product development problems that delay product launch.<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>8. Cyber security, identity theft, intellectual property security.<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>Infections in email attachments.<\/li>\n<li>Internal sabotage and infiltration.<\/li>\n<li>Hackers.<\/li>\n<li>Harmful web sites.<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"> <strong><u>9. Shift coverage.<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Examples:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>People lacking the necessary expertise cause problems (Malplacement Liability).<\/li>\n<li>Someone goes on vacation or takes ill and there is no one else to cover.<\/li>\n<li>People leave and all the knowledge goes with leaving a hole in the team&#8217;s capability.<\/li>\n<li>New team members cannot get trained fast enough.<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #800000\"\"> <strong><u>10. Preventive maintenance triggers.<\/li>\n<p><\/span><\/font><\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Considerations:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<ul><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><\/p>\n<li>What is the trigger point on a machine, tool, etc., that alerts a team member to take action to avoid problems? <\/li>\n<li>What should team members do when the trigger point occurs?<\/li>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<hr>\n<table border=\"5\" BORDERCOLOR=\"#FFCC00\">\n<tr>\n<th><P ALIGN = left><br \/>\n<font size=\"3\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong><u>Three Recommendations:<\/u><\/font><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #500000 \"> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><P ALIGN = left>1. Identify your team&#8217;s readiness trigger points (situations they must be ready to address) for their area(s) of responsibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #500000 \"> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><P ALIGN = left>2. For each trigger point, consider each phase of the <a href=\"https:\/\/teamreadiness.com\/?p=2149\">&#8220;Emergency Management&#8221;<\/a> framework to determine actions that will best help your team achieve readiness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><P ALIGN = left>Mitigate &#8212; Take action to eliminate any chance of an incident or to eliminate risks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><P ALIGN = left>Prepare &#8212; Take action to train and drill so you are can execute the plan when called.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><P ALIGN = left>Respond &#8212; Execute the plan when the &#8220;trigger point&#8221; is reached; when the &#8220;alarm&#8221; is sounded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><P ALIGN = left>Recover &#8212; Take appropriate action after the plan has been completed and the situation has been addressed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><P ALIGN = left><\/p>\n<p style=\"background-color: #003366\"> <span style=\"color: #FFFFFF\"><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;3.
